THE NUKEPROOF GIGA 290 FACTORY: GLUTTONY IS NOT A SIN In the pursuit of the ultimate super enduro mountain bike, gluttony is a virtue. A bike built for the riders who demand a bike that can go bigger, faster and longer, the Nukeproof Giga 290 was birthed from a gluttonous lust for more. We wanted more travel, more capability and more shredability; something that could still comfortably pedal uphill, but would descend like an absolute hooligan. Thus came the Giga 290, a super enduro weapon developed straight from our award-winning Dissent downhill bike. Built around a burly 180mm fork, 170mm of rear travel, 29-inch wheels and an ultra-tunable geometry, the Giga 290 is the ultimate bike for riders always hungry for more. HOW IT RIDES Developed alongside the modern version of the Nukeproof Mega enduro bike, the Giga 290 was birthed from the desire to have a bike as versatile as the Mega but capable of shredding just as hard as our downhill bike. We took the test mule for the Dissent downhill bike, which was in development at the time, and modified it to work as a super enduro bike. The result was mind blowing — not only did the prototype come alive at warp speed in the rowdiest descents, it climbed well and felt flickable in tight terrain. Our test riders didn’t want to give the prototype frame back. And behold, the Giga 290 was born. The suspension is based on the same horseshoe-driven linkage used in our Dissent downhill bike, which is designed to be supple off the top, supportive in the mid-stroke and progressive through the rest of the travel. This means the top-end of the travel has supple small bump compliance and solid mid-stroke support for better cornering and pumping. The geometry of the full-carbon UD 700/800 frame is based on our saddle offset principle, which adjusts seat tube angle across the size range to ensure the seated riding position is perfect, no matter the rider’s height. It’s a long, low and slack frame designed to feel like a big bike on the descent with the pedal-able versatility of a modern super enduro rig. There’s also an eccentric flip chip that alters shock progressivity to suit your style and the terrain. It also features a downtube carved out to fit a full-size water bottle inside the front triangle, an accessory mount hidden under the top tube and it comes with a stock-installed frame protection kit. It’s a bike built for the biggest lines — equally at home on technical big mountain enduro stages as it is lapping the wildest lines at the Whistler bike park. THE NUKEPROOF MEGAWATT 297 FACTORY: A MEGA WITH A MOTOR With Shimano EP8 guts and the soul of our EWS-winning enduro rig, the MegaWatt is designed to maximize descending by getting you back to the top faster, again and again (and again). The Nukeproof Megawatt 297 shares DNA with our multi-time Enduro World Series winning race bike, the Mega, but with the added oomph of a Shimano STEPS EP8 pedal assist motor. Making 85Nm of torque and 250W of power, the EP8 motor system is a natural choice for the Megawatt. It’s a class-leading motor with great engagement, superb power delivery and a very natural ride feel. Powering it all is Shimano’s 630Wh removable battery with enough juice for long odysseys on the trail. Inspired by the race-proven geometry of the Mega, the Megawatt 297 is an e-enduro machine designed to be playful yet stable — fun in any scenario, both up and down the trail. HOW IT RIDES The Megawatt 297 is a mixed-wheel eMTB that uses a 29-inch wheel in the front and a smaller 27.5-inch wheel in the rear. The larger front wheel is optimal for grip and rolling over obstacles while the smaller rear wheel helps the bike snap around corners and stay lively in tight terrain. Paired with 170mm of suspension travel front and rear, the mixed wheels and big travel make the Megawatt a mean e-enduro machine. Like the non-motor powered Mega, the Megawatt’s rear suspension has been optimized to be super supple of the top of the stroke while remaining progressive and supportive through the rest of the travel. The anti-squat is optimized to create a bike that offers ultimate performance on the descents while remaining supportive on the climbs. We’ve also given the Megawatt a wide SAG range (30%-35%) to allow the rider to custom-tune the bike to their preferences. Geometry wise, we’ve taken the best qualities of our enduro-winning Mega and optimized it for eMTB-use. The frame is built from hydroformed 6061 aluminum with space made in the downtube for the Shimano battery and a one-piece cast bottom bracket shell for the EP8 motor. The Megawatt 297’s battery is removable, and the bike is compatible with Shimano’s smaller 504Wh battery. THE NUKEPROOF MEGA 290 CARBON FACTORY: GO FAST OR GO HOME A between-the-tape slayer built on the tenets of balance, predictability and absolute speed. Originally built as the “downhiller’s trailbike” designed specifically to tackle the infamous MEGAVALANCHE enduro in France, the Nukeproof Mega has been racking up enduro stage wins and press accolades for over ten years. With four Enduro World Series titles to its name, the Mega has become an icon synonymous with racing. At the core of this fourth generation Mega is suspension designed to be utterly thrashed through technical terrain. This 290 version of the bike rolls on 29-inch wheels front and rear for enhanced traction and roll-over in brutal conditions. HOW IT RIDES After winning four Enduro World Series Titles in three years, the all-new Mega is an evolution of our ultimate Enduro bike. It’s progressive, predictable and is the culmination of more than a decade’s worth of refinement — a true labor of love. In pursuit of optimizing weight, strength and stiffness, the Mega 290 Carbon is built around a full T700/800 UD woven carbon fiber frame. Its long, low and slack geometry is designed around our saddle offset principle, which adjusts seat tube angle across the size range to ensure the seated riding position is perfect, no matter the rider’s height. Everything on the bike has been carefully designed for racing and hard enduro riding. We've carved out space inside the front triangle of the frame for a 750ml water bottle, the seat tube is designed for slammed dropper posts and we’ve even fitted the Mega with a threaded bottom bracket and universal derailleur hangar for easy maintenance. The Mega’s Horst-link suspension system has been retooled in this newest generation for suppleness over small bumps while remaining supportive on the climbs. Solid mid-stroke support balanced with relatively modest anti-squat gives the Mega an active rear end that feels shockingly efficient when pedaling uphill. Anti-squat reduces as you shift down the cassette and pick up speed, making the bike come alive on descents. It’s a bike built for hot, nasty speed and big days in variable terrain; when less energy spent pedaling up means more in the tank for shredding down.
